The impressive line-up includes Pape M’Baye & Chosani Afrique; Afro Moses; Errol Renaud & Caribbean Soul; Karifi; Sibo Bangoura with Keyim Ba; Miriam Lieberman; as well as a special guest appearance from internationally renowned Epizo Bangoura. These amazing artists take the audience on an exciting musical journey into West Africa – promising explosive and powerful African drumming, high energy dancing and the alluring sounds of West African melody and song.

The festival is a day/night event that will include FREE drumming workshops for both adults and children with Djembe greats – brothers Mohamed & Sibo Bangoura-, a dynamic African dance workshop (also FREE), continuous live performance throughout the day from a stellar line-up of musicians as well as food by African Feeling Restaurant, African designs by Kindia Design, and many craft – and other – stalls of interest.

Media Sponsor announced

The West African Festival 2011 is thrilled to have DIASPORA WORLD BEAT on board as the Festival Media Sponsor. DIASPORA is Australia’s dedicated portal for world, African, Caribbean, Latin, Reggae, Eastern, Brazilian, Blues, Indigenous and Local independent musical culture.

Diaspora World Beat was founded in 1999 by Cristina Dio and Richard Jasiutowicz to fill a void left by the mainstream media. Initially a print magazine, Diaspora World Beat was released quarterly with pertinent articles and reviews balancing international and local “world music” artists, releases and events. Today, Diaspora is an online e-magazine, still the only world beat publication in Australia and steadily becoming one of the most comprehensive world music information resources on the web.

The West African festival 2011 thanks Cristina Dio and Diaspora for their massive support to the festival and their terrific work promoting music from diverse cultures.
